I found out about this campground through a friend's recommendation, and I tent camped there in August 2006.
Describe your camping trip:
This campground was recommended by a friend, who told us how beautiful the area is. Though she uses the RV facilities, she was quite sure the tent camping area was nice too. She was right. We camped in the Lower Lake campground, which has the newly renovated bathhouses. They were spotless, and the free, hot showers were wonderful. Promised Land also has Pines campground and Pickerel Point-Deerfield campground. I believe the facilities in these two campgrounds have not been updated yet. Another reason why we liked the Lower Lake campground was because the sites were a little more secluded from each other by space and trees. The Pines campground was more open. Sites also have tent platforms, which are level and free of rocks and tree roots. Each fire ring had a metal grate for cooking and could be folded away when not needed. The roads that wind throughout the sites are paved, which makes biking easy for kids.
Pros: The park as a whole was very pretty. The lake is a great place for boating (rentals available) and fishing, as well as swimming. There are many trails for mountain biking and hiking. The Little Falls Trail is a short, fairly easy walk, and the falls are a nice reward at the end.
Cons: none
Cons: none
Nearby attractions: Pocono Mountains, Delaware State Forest, Delaware Water Gap
Further comments:
Our first experience at Promised Land State Park was a great one. This is a campground that we will definitely return to.
