Nehalem Bay Horse Camp, Nehalem Bay, Oregon

Campground Review from Brenda Mohr

About.com Rating five out of Five

By David Sweet, About.com

I found out about this campground from several of our horse club members who had camped there a number of times, and it came up in a monthly meeting to have a weekend camping/trail ride there. I tent camped there in June 2006.

Describe your camping trip:

The horse camp only has 17 sites. It is designed in a manner that your horses are safe, and each site gives you a small measure of privacy. The beach is literally over the hill from the campground, approximately 30 yards away. If you are lucky and get saddled early enough, you may see bald eagles feeding on things that have washed ashore during the night tides. Although the beach itself is not super long, it is long enough to take at least an hour long ride from one end to the other. At the north end of the beach is a small shopping community that you can ride your horse to. The weather was perfect the weekend that we went. No rain and it was in the 70s. There is water for your horses, a table at each camp, and it's within walking distance to the main campground showers. There are two single horse corrals and room to pitch your tent. Some of our members couldn't tough it out, so they brought their campers or had someone bring their camp trailers.
Pros: the beach

Cons: none
Nearby attractions: Nehalem Bay State Park

Further comments:

It was such a nice place that our club has decided to make it an annual trip the same time each year.
