I found out about this campground through friends, and I tent camped there in September 2006.
Describe your camping trip:
Individual campground sites are well described on the Internet reservation site and somewhat close together. Most sites are well shaded. The bathroom facilities have been updated, are regularly cleaned, and include private, locking showers, a rarity at Maryland state park campgrounds. Unfortunately, they are inadequate for the number of campers, most of whom camp in tents, and the result is occasional long waits to use the showers and restroom facilities. Security is good, quiet hours are quiet, and the camp store is reasonably well equipped.
Pros: The hiking trails are scenic, challenging, well-maintained and well-marked. The climb to the waterfall, the sandy lake-front beach, and the reasonably priced boat rentals were hits with our kids and us.
Cons: none
Cons: none
Nearby attractions: Cunningham Falls, Catoctin Furnace
Further comments:
This campground has become quite popular, so advance reservations are highly recommended for weekend stays.
