I found out about this campground on the National Park Web site for Capitol Reef, and I tent camped there in July 2004.

Describe your camping trip:

My two best friends and I were on the camping trip of a lifetime: six weeks around the Grand Circle, kind of a drift-as-we-pleased loose schedule. We only spent two nights at Capitol Reef before moving on to Arches.
Pros: This was probably the most beautiful campground I've ever stayed at. It is near an orchard (hence the name) that you are allowed to plunder at will. Just take what you will use, please. It's covered with lush green grass. There's a lot of retiree RVers who look like they're there for the summer. They set up little yards and picket fences and potted plants, and they are very pleasant sitting on their front porches and waving as you drive by. There's an area that is considered walk-in tent camping only that is a giant grassy yard. It was so beautiful and lush that we slept outside sans tent. The trees are also lush and plentiful, and they offer loads of shade. Quite a respite after a day of hiking through hot slot canyons. The bathrooms were the cleanest ever. Thank the retirees who manage the place. There is also a place to do your dishes.

Cons: nothing
Nearby attractions: The closest hike is a short but lovely one to Hickman Bridge, a natural bridge. The visitor's center is also a really good one, and there's the orchard too.
