I found out about this campground from the NC Division of Parks and Recreation, and I RV camped there in August 2006.
Describe your camping trip:
When it comes to camping in the NC Mountains, you can't beat Stone Mountain State Park, and at a lot less cost than other campgrounds. They have electric and water hookups, shaded or open sites, trails, great bathhouse, and an easy to get to dump site. As seniors we do not require a lot of organized activity. Personnel were friendly and helpful. We stayed a week two times this summer, and we would go back again.
Pros: Clean, supervised, friendly personnel, quiet, good trails, and a store nearby.
Cons: Can't get there often enough.
Cons: Can't get there often enough.
Nearby attractions: Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain, Mt. Mitchell, and Asheville.
Further comments:
They also have backpack campsites, group campsites and a picnic shelter.
