Lake Wappapello State Park, Williamsville, Missouri

Campground Review from lakes-r-us

About.com Rating five out of Five

By David Sweet, About.com

I found out about this campground on the Missouri state parks Web site, and I RV camped there several times 2003-2006.

Describe your camping trip:

Beautiful. There are two campgrounds at this state park. Don't confuse them with the Corp. of Engineers over at the dam. The state park is on the west side of the lake. The Ridge Campground is wooded and beautiful in the spring when 100's of Red Buckeye bushes bloom attracting hummingbirds. The Asher Creek Campground in the park is open and looks right out on the lake. Boats can be pulled right up to the shoreline, and the campground has its own boat launch. Campsites are mostly all electric with some 50-amp service. Great crappie fishing in spring and great fall catfishing.
Pros: Typical quality Missouri State Park service. Friendly staff and routine park patrols. Campgrounds are usually not crowded.

Cons: The Asher Creek showerhouse is small, but it is kept clean. A large modern showerhouse with laundry is located at the Ridge Campground. There are no individual sewer or water hook-ups, but each campground has a dumpstation.
Nearby attractions: Just the lake and lots of national forests and other public lands nearby.

Further comments:

This park also has housekeeping cabins, picnic shelters, trails and a beach.
