Lakewood Camping Resort, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Campground Review from Jrail

About.com Rating one out of Five

By David Sweet, About.com

I found out about this campground through friends, and I RV camped there in June 2006.

Describe your camping trip:

My family has camped at Lakewood several weeks a year for 19 years. I must say most of the trips have been great. However, it appears that as the years go on, they have become more and more money hungry. The original owners would be very upset, if they were to see the way it is run now. It is no longer "What can we do to make your stay more pleasant?" Now it's "How can we get more money out of you?" Just an example, my niece has a disabled son. They brought their own golf cart and had it specially equiped to make it safe for him to ride. Guess what? They would have to pay $20 per day for the priviledge of bringing their own cart. For a disabled child.
Pros: Fond memories of the way it used to be.

Cons: Knowing what I know now, everything is bad.
Nearby attractions: Good location.

Further comments:

Other campgrounds such as Ocean Lakes next door allow anyone to bring their own cart (possibly $2 charge?). I was already getting fed up with Lakewood's attitude, but you can be sure I won't be going back now. I encourage anyone with a disabled family member or loved one to avoid Lakewood.
