Lake Conasauga Campground, Chattahoochee NF, Georgia

Campground Review from Mel

About.com Rating four out of Five

By David Sweet, About.com

We heard about Lake Conasauga while camping at Fort Mountain. My husband loves to fish, and Lake Conasauga is 19 acres and the highest elevated lake in Georgia. We camped there in July 2006.

Describe your camping trip:

We towed a little pop-up camper and a canoe over 12-15 miles on rugged dirt roads, but it was a beautiful drive in. We got a nice spot right on the lake under plenty of shade. My husband and daughter were able to fish at will.
Pros: The campground, although filled to capacity, was very peaceful. At night thousands and thousands of bullfrogs sing you to sleep. Temperatures in the summer are comfortable even mid-day, because of the high elevation.

Cons: There are no electrical/water hookups, and there is no electricity in the bathhouses. The drive in is rough and could damage larger fancy rigs.
Nearby attractions: Fort Mountain State Park
