I found out about this campground on the Front Royal Canoe Company Web site, and I tent camped there in May 2007.
Describe your camping trip:
The campground is wooded, so you don't feel like you are in an open field. It has private camping under a bridge spot for large groups. Gooney Creek has a nice relaxing feel next to a moving creek.
Pros: The creek is nice for wading and has some deep spots with a rope for jumping. It's nice to sleep with the creek noise. Woods camping. There is hiking up along the creek with an old built-in swimming spot with stone steps going into the creek. Very primitive feel. There isn't a well traveled path, so you will have to climb over fallen trees. If you dare hike further as we have, way way off the beaten path there is a beautiful waterfall with a lagoon you can swim in. Birds, butterflies and wild flowers I don't think many people venture that far. It is a good couple mile hike for those who love hiking. Very secluded, if you want to skinny dip there. Ample supply of fire wood you can purchase. Bathrooms there are not 5-star, but your camping so it's fine for potty and showers. There are hook ups for RVs as well.
Cons: Not the campground's fault, but the obvious is ticks so remember to spray.

Nearby attractions: Front Royal Canoe trips with canoes, rafts or tubes. Caverns nearby for tours. KFC and 7-11.
Further comments:
I love this place. It is wooded. I hate to go camping and your in a field without shade. This place has plenty of it. Fun to get in the creek on a hot day.
