Fernwood Resort, Big Sur, CaliforniaCampground Review from Ted The CamperGuide Rating - ![]() I found this campground driving by on the way to San Francisco, and I tent camped there in May 2007. Describe your camping trip:We did memorial weekend this year (2007), also did it in 2004.Pros: Very heavily wooded and green with a creek running through the middle. Lots of shade, relatively peaceful and quiet. Super clean, well-maintained bathrooms and hot showers. A few very nice creek front RV spots. Annoying critters such as mosquitoes, bugs, food stealing birds and squirrels are almost non-existent. Within a 1/2 hour drive of nice beaches and Carmel/Monterey. Also, a few really nice restaurants and barbeques nearby. A couple of them are on the cliffs with ocean views. Cons: Some of the sites were a bit on the small side. If you have a large tent and more than one vehicle, check them out first, or have a detailed conversation with one of the front office people. Should reserve six months in advance. Other than one volleyball court and a horseshoe area, not a lot of on-site things to do. Nearby attractions: Monterey Aquarium, wine tasting, beautiful scenic coastline and beaches, tide pools, plenty of great places to eat. Further comments:Basically, we really enjoyed this place. One of the top five camping areas in California for sure. Definitely the cleanest and one of the very prettiest in the state. |
