Cherokee KOA, Cherokee, North Carolina

Campground Review from Jeff

About.com Rating four out of Five

By David Sweet, About.com

I found out about this campground on the Internet, and I RV camped there in June 2007.

Describe your camping trip:

Myself and an old military buddy meet every two years with our families and decided to go to KOA this year. We stayed for four nights. We had a good time. The view is absolutely amazing in the mountains from where we were. The road leading up to the campground offers severals spots to pull over and get a view that is just simply incredible.
Pros: The campgrounds are well kept. There is both an indoor and outdoor pool along with a hot tub in each setting. The indoor pool is heated, so swimming in cooler weather is an option. The staff was very friendly to include the several teenagers they hire. If you are like me and have a dog who loves water, you have a choice of a large stream or a pond, which sits in front of the campgrounds. Both are in walking distance from any site. There is plenty of entertainment and activities planned daily for the kids. The city of Cherokee is only a four mile drive from the campsite. Though, if you want to go to Gatlinburg as we did one day, it's about a 45 to 55 minute drive. The bathrooms are very clean and they actually have a TV in the bathrooms.

Cons: The cable reception is horrendous. It was bad at both of our campsites and the bathroom. I have to assume it's bad throughout the campgrounds. The picture is snowy to the point that we were watching the finals in the NBA playoffs and couldn't even read the score. They need an open area for a dog run and activities.
Nearby attractions: Cherokee, the city (5 minutes), If you like the typical tourist trap type of shopping, it's good. Plenty to see and do there. Gatlinburg, (45 minutes), typical tourist trap with more to do. It is worth the trip. Dollywood, (1 hour).

Further comments:

We had a great time. It's a good campsite for the family. There is plenty to do.
