I've been camping at this campground since 1982, and I RV camped there in June 2007.

Describe your camping trip:

I submitted a negative review last year on this campground, but it seems to be improving. It has had some management issues in the past. The manager was rude and antagonistic. The same manager is still there this year, but seemed to be more low key. In the 10 days we were there, we never saw him.
Pros: Most beautiful campground I've ever been to. Spacious sites within the forested campground. Hiking, boating, fishing, wildlife viewing just to name a few of the things to do here. Laundry facility and general store located at the swim beach, which is really nice. We had a really great trip.

Cons: There are only a few sites that offer full hookup, but it seems that all the sewer hookups were covered up this year in an effort to reduce cost by management. So there are no longer full hookup sites. Some friends had reserved a full site through Recreation.gov and weren't told of the lack of sewer service at check in. After the first week of a two week stay when they needed to empty the tanks they couldn't find the sewer hookup and had to ask where it was. That's when they were told there were no full hookup sites. They had paid for a full site and will now have to try to obtain a refund through the reservation system.
Nearby attractions: Located on Cave Run Lake it, offers boating, fishing and swimming. The forest offers hiking, biking, horsback riding, ATV trails and wildwife viewing. It's a short drive to the Red River Gorge and makes a great day trip.

Further comments:

It has improved since last year. Last year the hosts were instructed to remove all the leftover wood so that the store could sell more firewood. This year they were leaving it.

Run down campground...January 05, 2009By scube54
"My family has been camping at Twin Knobs for over 20 years and have noticed a steady decline in the facilities at the campgrounds. Basically, there have been no improvements, and minimal repairs made at the sites. Restrooms/showers are disgusting and have not been thoroughly cleaned in years. The campground fills up on most weekends through the summer, mostly folks with boats who like to get on the lake before sunrise, be prepared to get up early. We only camp at Twin Knobs during the early spring, avoiding the summer and fall."
