Lakewood Camping Resort, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Campground Review from Kenny

About.com Rating two out of Five

By David Sweet, About.com

I found out about this campground from a friend, and I RV camped there in June 2007.

Describe your camping trip:

The campground was mostly clean. However, in one of the bathouses there was certainly an ongoing plumbing problem. The toilets stayed stopped up constantly with waste, which was absolutely disgusting and also a health hazzard. The swimming pool was somewhat dirty. It appeared that the chlorine was not strong enough.
Pros: Plenty of activities.

Cons: Stopped up toilets in the shower houses. Teenagers driving recklessly on golf carts, which is a danger if you have small children.
Nearby attractions: Myrtle Beach

Further comments:

Lakewood is an old campground that has been around since the 1960's. Although many things have been updated in the campground, I believe that more work is needed. The campground has the potential to be awesome. If you have a self contained camper and do not have to deal with the bath houses, then I believe that your stay would be more enjoyable. The bathhouse can get downright nasty. This is a moneymaking campground where electric golf cart rental is $47.00 a day. I have rented cars for nearly half of that price. Look out for the reckless golf cart drivers.
