I found out about this campground when I raced in mountain bike race there in 99. I tent camped there in July 2007.
Describe your camping trip:
Weekend camping trip with two people and one dog, Fri-Sun. Stayed in tent. We day hiked Friday and Saturday, fished Saturday at Daniel's Dam, and left early Sunday. Campsites are arranged as a loop within a loop. Site #447 is pretty much out of the way. Choose outer loop, outside campsites for more privacy, but farther from bathroom. Inner loop is good for RVs. There is a dump for RVs. Bathroom is in good condition, and it is cleaned at 10 am daily.
Pros: Close to Baltimore, bathroom facilities are in very good shape, staff is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Bring a kayak or canoe. The river can be navigated year round.
Cons: Close to Route 40. During daytime traffic noise was there. Not a problem, but traffic could be heard all night, and trains periodically. I could only take the dog to the areas in the campsite that were undeveloped and one other area (Daniel's Dam). Most day use areas are off limits to pets.

Nearby attractions: Baltimore Inner Harbor: 30 minutes, Ellicott City: 10 minutes, Washington DC: 60 minutes.
Further comments:
I'd go to Greenbriar or Elk Neck State Park for an overnight over this park. This is a really beautiful park, great for horseback riding, day hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing and it's close to Baltimore. I'd recommend an overnight for people traveling through and wanting to visit Baltimore, and enjoy the park.
