We went with a group of friends who had been there before. We tent camped there in July 2007.
Describe your camping trip:
Very lovely area among the pines. Near Hurkey Lake with shores, hills and fishing. Very large campground, so sites are wide open and uncrowded. Walking/hiking trails and fields were many and nearby. Bathrooms were extremely clean. The rangers are all very friendly and helpful. There was a Ronald McDonald children's charity camp-out the weekend we went, so you know they have to have a good solid reputation for dependability, safety and fun. A beautiful drive up the mountain, and the town of Idyllwild (incredibly charming - we'd never seen that) very near for exploring.Pros: Very well maintained. Very clean, including bathrooms (good lighting, too). Rangers patrolled at 10:00 pm sharp to all sites to very politely remind people of the quiet time rules. They were very polite.
Cons: none
Cons: none
Nearby attractions: Town of Idyllwild, CA.
