I've been going to Yosemite all my life, and I RV camped there in June 2005, 2006, 2007.

Describe your camping trip:

The campground is set on the south side of the Merced River in Yosemite Valley. It is nearby Curry Village for showers and stores. The campground itself is suited for either tent/car camping or RV camping. The sites are close together but still spacious and have dedicated fire rings. There is an outdoor amphitheater for ranger programs and a resident campground host. There are no hookups, but flush toilets and sinks all around, with dumps for grey water and fresh water spigots. It is bear country, so there are bear boxes and bear proof dumpsters on site, which are checked daily by rangers. There are a few sites that are ADA compliant and a few that are connected together, in case you have a group.
Pros: This campground provides awesome views of Half Dome and Yosemite Falls, is close to shuttle stops and on the other side of the river from the horse stables. Camping is reasonably priced at about $18 a night, but has been going up.

Cons: Either or both the NPS and the Yosemite concessioner "Delaware Company" have been moving toward reducing the amount of campsites in the valley, favoring the higher priced hotel room accommodations in the valley. The 100 year flood in the late 90's destroyed two major campgrounds in the valley. Money was allotted by Congress to restore the campgrounds, but has been mysteriously diverted to other projects, thus making it nearly impossible to get reservations for any of the campgrounds in the valley with either phone or high speed Internet.
Nearby attractions: Horse stables, Happy Isles Visitor Center, trailheads to Half Dome, Vernal and Nevada Falls, John Muir Trail. There is also Curry Village, Awhanee Hotel, Yosemite Village.
Further comments: Please write your Congressman and tell them to keep our public lands accessible for the general public, not just the upper class and high spending tourists. This land was reserved for use and enjoyment for us, and I would like my children to enjoy this wonderful land with their children.
