I found out about this campground on the AAA Eastern Sierra Map, and I RV camped there in June 2008.

Describe your camping trip:

This campground is 11 miles from Big Pine, California and Highway 395 in the high Eastern Sierra Nevada. The camp is at the base of three major mountains: The Thumb 13,356 feet, Middle Palisade 14,012 feet and Norman Clyde Peak 13,855 feet. There are three major hiking trails from this camp. Our favorite is the north fork of Big Pine Creek. In late spring and early summer, there are numerous waterfalls and wildflowers. There is also trout fishing and just relaxing to the sounds of the creek and birds.
Pros: I do not think it gets much better than this.

Cons: No electricity, but you can stay at the Glacier Lodge Campground with hookups.
Nearby attractions: Highway 395 scenic corridor.
