I found out about this campground through a friend, and I tent camped there in August 2007.
Describe your camping trip:
The campround has about 300 campsites, a good number of trailer spaces and a few cabins for rent. We, family of 4, have gone to Lake Siskyo Campround for 18 years in a row. We started going when my son, now 19, was only one year old. We have camped, stayed in trailers, and cabins.
Pros: Our overall experience taking our kids there was awesome. They absolutly love that place. There is a gorgeous beach with canoes, water tubes and other floating devides for the children. The showers/bathrooms are clean, accessible. The town nearby is fun to visit with great stores.
Cons: The last few years under the new management we have not been treated respectfully by the lady who runs that place. On a few occasions, there were large groups of people making noise until late at night or even into the early morning and nothing would be done to preserve the privacy of others. One year we stayed in a cabin, which was almost $200 per night, only to have the misfortune to find lots of mice in our cereal boxes, shoes, etc. They were everywhere. When we talked to the manager, she completely disregarded us by saying, "You are in the woods. What do you expect?" I am terrified of mice. There was no way I could sleep the next 10 days in that cabin full of mice so I slept in my car. Of course I was told not to because it was against the rules. At night we could hear mice activities happening inside the heater system. It sounded like there were hundreds of mice.
Nearby attractions: Castle Lake is another great lake to go visit. The town has a great place for children with lots of good sandwiches, smoothies, games, etc.
Further comments: This was the worst trip of my life. We had stayed in cabins before but had never experienced anything like this. Another summer, after returning home, we got an angry call from the woman manager saying that we had left a bottle of fizzy water in the refrigerator, therefore an extra cleaning charge was applied to our credit card to cover for the extra cleaning involved to get rid of the water bottle as absurd as it sounds. She did charge us an extra $100. On another occassion I was changing my one and a half year old daughter on the deck when somebody from the office came to complain that someone had seen my daughter naked thus it was inappropriate because that could have caused her/his 9 year old son to have weird ideas if he saw her naked - strange. This year my children want to go back there, but I am reluctant. Is it really worth it to pay over $100 for a cabin full of mice? This is our annual summer vacation so the least we expect is to be treated with a little bit of courtesy. If I am to have mice in my cereal box, I'd rather to be for free than have to pay anything for it.
The campground is great. Lots of great stuff to do for the children, arcade, lake, canoes, boats, hiking, biking, etc. We have been there for so many years and still love it. We have seen the best and the worst of the management and right now if you can put up with the new manager and their odd rules, this is a great family vacation area. As for me, I will be exploring other areas and hope that Lake Siskyo gets run by new management people who are friendly and flexible.
