Describe your camping trip:
We were looking for a place to try out our recently acquired (used) travel trailer. This was within 50 miles of us, and we could fish for free in state parks.
Pros: We stayed in the Post Oak area, which had all the usual amenities at the site. Our spot was #47, and we had no complaints. There were no mosquitoes in our spot, which seemed unusual to me. We saw wildlife in and around the sites, and deer are there if you look close enough.
Cons: This is a crowded park. We saw people waiting in a line (of sorts) to fish the piers, and we never could find a spot. During our weekend stay the piers were always being used and are not that easy to fish from as they are pretty high above the lake level. If you catch the big one, you will need a net for pier fishing. You can not reserve specific camping spots, so you never know where you will end up, but the park attendants will help you select the best one for you and I'm glad we took their advice. Drive slow, there are many small children playing in the streets, walkers, etc. The noise level is high not only from people, but from firing range, traffic (distant motorcycle - maybe dirt bike track?), motor boats, etc. My neighborhood is much quieter. I think there was only one dump site with one port and you could have a wait.

Nearby attractions: Crazy Water Hotel, Friday night football at Mineral Wells High, small outlet mall, usual fast food restaurants, nice park on west side of town, Vietnam Veterans monument area (currently under construction) and Texas longhorns here and there.
Further comments: Texas has a wonderful state park system, and it's no secret. Lake Mineral Wells State Park is a great place, if you want to climb rock, ride bikes, meet people and walk. Just avoid the weekends and crowds.
