This was a return visit. Original visit was ten years ago. This time we were there for the Tulip Festival in May 2009.
Describe your camping trip:
We stayed in the Pines section of the Lake Macatawa portion of the park. There is also a Woodstock section, and the beach section.
Pros: We like wooded areas and Pines was the best. Lots of trees and some good campsites. The rest rooms were clean and the sites fairly large with open space between sites.
Cons: The beach section is typical beach camping. Open area, basically space on a parking lot. In May it would be fine, but July-August it would be HOT! Not our style.
Nearby attractions: Tulip Festival was great. Lots of history, planned activities from morning to evening, lots of flowers (tulips). The local high school musical was outstanding.
Further comments: We camped in a popup, but there were also tents, trailers and motor homes. We were there from Wednesday to Sunday. Weekdays had very little traffic, but it got busier during the weekend. Camp staff was friendly and helpful.
