I found out about this campground by word-of-mouth, and I tent camped there in September 2009.
Describe your camping trip:
30 campsites nestled amist huge pines bordering the Farmington River. Located in the American Legion State Forest.
Pros: Excellent clean campsites (tents and RV OK). PetS OK. Fire rings, toilets and showers. The rangers are the most educated and helpful, wanting all to enjoy the outdoors safely. Books and maps for canoe kayak trips, hiking, mountain and road biking as well as card and board games available for free from the rangers during your stay. Sites are within 500 feet of the river with excellent fly and land fishing. Tubing and wading also here in season. Camp road provides opportunity for strolls or bicyling, safe for children.
Cons: It's closed in the winter.
Cons: It's closed in the winter.
Nearby attractions: MMM Trail (national hiking trail), antiquing, fresh water spring, wildlife, kayaking, canoeing and tubing on the river. There's a large lake within 10 minutes for larger boats. Near grocery and shopping centers. Many individual crafters in area, live music on weekends, and seasonal fairs.
Further comments: This is an old time rustic feel campground with modern ammenities and people that provide a superior experience respecting the desires of the individual camper.
