Guide Review - eGear 15 LED Dynamo Lantern

The eGear Dynamo 15-LED Lantern came today. The first thing I noticed was how small the box was. The lantern comes in its storage state. To open the lantern you have to pull up on the top while pressing two buttons on opposite sides of the lantern. Not hard to do. The lantern locks either in the stored state or fully extended. The ON/OFF switch can be turned on to low (9 LED) or high (15 LED). I thought even the 9 LED setting was quite bright. This lantern never needs batteries. It gets its power from turning the built-in hand crank, using the rechargable battery, or from 12V adaptors. The hand crank tucks neatly away into the lantern's lid. It turns easily compared to some dynamos I've tried, and it provides continuos light in just a few minute of turning. There is also a built-in emergency siren that is very ear-piercing. I'm sure this could be heard for quite a distance. One of the neatest features of this lantern is its ability to charge cell phones. Adapters are included for most models. There is also a cigarette lighter adapter for charging the lantern in your car. There is a battery cover on the bottom that is not water-proof. You need to be careful not to set this on anything wet. This is a great lantern for camping, fishing and hunting.
