Guide Review - eGear 12 LED Lantern with Dimming Switch
I currently have a Coleman propane lantern, but I bought this lantern because of it's safety features. The propane lantern provides good light, but it does get very hot, so you have to be careful about using a propane lantern around kids. The eGear 12 LED Lantern never gets hot, so you can use it around kids, in your tent, or indoors without fear of ever getting burned. I was skeptical about the brightness at first, because I had read reviews where campers said the lantern wasn't that bright. However, once I tried it, I found that it provides so much light that the built-in dimming switch is a practical feature.
The eGear lantern uses 4 "D" batteries, which will last for days compared to a propane lantern that will only burn for several hours on one propane canister. The batteries are inserted into the base of the lantern, which has an O-ring seal for weather resistance. It's made of heavy-duty plastic, and there is no metal to rust. Available in blue or silver. I bought my eGear lantern at Campmor for $39.99.
