The Bottom Line
Coghlan's LED Headlights are ideal for hands-free light sources. They are comfortable and lightweight. The clip-on model 0843 can be worn as head gear or clipped to the bill of your cap. The 0.5 watt model 0841 puts out up to 20 lumens, which is great for times when you need more light. Great for setting up camp at night, following a trail in the dark, night fishing, or any occasion when you need hands-free lighting.

Guide Review - Coghlan's LED Headlights
Coghlan's added 2 new LED headlamps to their product offerings for 2008: LED Clip-on Headlight model 0842 and 0.5W LED Headlight model 0841. The clip-on is the lightest of the two, and I hardly knew I was wearing it. The 0.5W model is heavier, although very comfortable due to the wide head band straps. I wish lights like these were available in the 60's when I was crawling around caves in Kentucky. Back then we were using carbide miner lamps. The times sure have changed. The clip-on model would be ideal for kids, because of its smaller size and lighter weight. Either model would be appropriate for adult use. The advantages of the clip-on model are the clip-on ability, light weight, and a flip-down red filter for night vision. The advantages of the 0.5W model are the 20 lumen output and the wider, more comfortable head strap. Although there are brighter headlamps on the market, these headlamps from Coghlan's are adequate lights for general night use, and they are inexpensive (under $20).
