Guide Review - Play & Freeze Ice Cream Maker
The Play and Freeze is a simple gadget. Take a durable plastic ball with a metal cylinder in it. Fill the ball with ice and salt, the cylinder with ice cream mix, and shake it up. The ball comes ready to roll, but I cleaned the container before using it. For my first attempt, I tried the Hot Cocoa recipe: 1 quart of cream and 4 packs of instant hot cocoa mix. Very simple. My wife and I sat across from each other in the family room and began rolling the Play and Freeze. After about 15 minutes, I scraped down the sides of the cylinder and I replaced the melted ice with fresh ice and a little more salt. We continued rolling for about 10 more minutes. After 25 minutes the ice cream was completely frozen. Quite hard, in fact, and I would suggest checking and scraping the ice cream in the cylinder after 10 minutes of rolling and again after 20 minutes. It was quite good for such a simple recipe and it reminded me of Fudgesicles. The Mega weighs about 9 lbs. full, so you'll get a good workout rolling it for 30 minutes. The Play and Freeze is quite an innovative gadget. It will be sure to get lots of use.
