By , About.com Guide

Definition: footprint - A custom sized ground cloth for your tent. Footprints are made an inch or two smaller than the tent floor and sometimes have loops that can be attached with the stake loops to achieve a custom fit that requires no tucking under. Footprint tarps are usually sold as an accessory, and they may not be included as part of the tent package.
