The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of the most beautiful and popular outdoor destinations in the United States. Designated a National Park in 1934 and more recently as an International Biosphere Reserve, the Smokies house abundant wildlife and diverse flora and fauna.
Of all the attractions in the Smoky Mountains, Cades Cove is the most visited. The scenery is spectacular, especially in spring and fall when the foliage is displaying its colors. Wildlife viewing along Cades Cove loop road offers many opportunities to view bear, deer, turkey and other wildlife. At the entrance to the Cades Cove loop road, get a copy of the self-guiding tour book which describes the historical buildings and scenes viewable in the cove. Below are some Cades Cove photos I took in September, 1999.
