Camping Recipes: Main Ingredient: Bread

From , former About.com Guide

Angela's Fried Apple Pie
A camping recipe from Tracy Jean. My sister Angela gave me this recipe. She saw one like it on a cooking show. It's an easy recipe to double or triple, if you have that many people.

Aussie Damper
A camping recipe from Cheryl. This is an old bushies bread. I grew up on this as we live in the rural area of Australia. It is cooked at home or out back bush.

Biscuit on a Stick
A camping recipe from Joe Adams. About ten years ago one of my camping buddies pulled a can of biscuits out of his cooler one cold camping morning and introduced us to this great and simple culinary miracle. A can of Hungry Jack buttermilk biscuits has been a staple in my cooler ever since.

Black Forest Steamed Bread Pudding
A camping recipe from Bummer. Our last day of camping we wanted to celebrate with dessert. I just threw this together with what we had on hand. I used burger buns that were getting old, dark chocolate chips I had brought for s'mores, and the ginger and nutmeg because I had them and not cinnamon. I chose honey to sweeten, because I had three restaurant packets with us, and I used the powdered milk because I had no fresh milk.

Bread Pudding Muffins
A camping recipe from Sherry. This recipe uses a classic scouting invention, the box oven. Visit the MacScouter Web site for instructions on how to build and use several box oven designs.

Coffee Can Campfire Bread
A camping recipe from Sam. This is very good. Easy and fun to make and ready in time for lunch.

Corn Bread
A camping recipe from David. This is an easy corn bread recipe that you can make right at the campground in your Dutch oven.

Dad's Biscuits
A camping recipe from J.T. Premixed, it doesn't require refrigeration and can be carried in a backpack. I have used this recipe at home and in camp for about 40 years now and it always pays off with compliments and requests for more.

Dutch Oven Biscuits
A camping recipe from David. Fill the campground with the smell of hot biscuits from the oven.

Fried Biscuits
A camping recipe from Laci. I've been camping many times as a kid and my all-time favorite thing was waking up to the smell of my dad cooking our breakfast and his amazing biscuits. These biscuits will not puff up as much like in an oven. They should be about 3/4 to 1 inch in height and flat on both sides.

Fry Bread
A camping recipe from David. A cast-iron skillet and a campfire, grill or stove is all you need to make delicious fry bread.

Gingerbread and Applesauce
Gingerbread and Applesauce, a camping recipe from Back Roads. This dessert is also good for breakfast the next morning.

Grilled P B and J
Grilled P B and J, a camping recipe from Dave.

Grilled Pizza
A camping recipe from Linda. This recipe is a great departure from hot dogs and hamburgers on a camping trip.

Grilled Pizza
A camping recipe from Jennifer. Who says you can't enjoy pizza at the campground?

Green Chili Turkey Stuffing
A camping recipe from Helen Howard. Very savory and smells divine while cooking.

Hobo Dinner
A camping recipe from David. Fill the campground with the smell of hot biscuits from the oven.

Hobo Pizza
A camping recipe from Matt. This is a great recipe to try around the campfire with cast-iron pie irons.

Monkey Bread
A camping recipe from A. M. Fouts. The first time we made this recipe we walked the whole campground and everyone had a chance to enjoy it.

Pie Iron Elvis
Pie Iron Elvis, a camping recipe from David. Elvis's favorite sandwich was fried peanut butter and banana. Try this version adapted for pie irons.

Pizza
A camping recipe from Roger. You can use ham, pineapple, mushrooms, sausage or anything left over that you would eat on a pizza.

Pudding Nuggies
A camping recipe from Jim McLalin. I have taught this to thousands of cub scouts and their families.

Pudgie Pies
A camping recipe from Sarah. For this one, iron pie makers are needed; and they don't have to be just for dessert! You can make pizzas too with sauce, cheese and toppings of your choice. Experiment and find a favorite of your own.

Stuffed French Toast
A camping recipe from Sarah. This is delicious with any kind of fruit, but my kids like it with bananas the best.

Woofums
A camping recipe from camp cween. The name comes from the way they are consumed once made. Woof'um down!
