Camping Recipes: Course: Side Dish

From , former About.com Guide

Bean Supreme
A camping recipe from Marilyn. This is one of our family's favorites even at home on a Saturday night. Easy and delicious. We never have beans straight from the can anymore.

Beans
A camping recipe from Mike. I invented this recipe while I was camping in Lapaz, Mexico back in 1994, and it has been a favorite of my family ever since.

Burnt Baked Potatoes
A camping recipe from Eli - I accidently made these before while attempting to make regular baked potatoes on the campfire. I left them on the fire too long, and they were so burnt the potatoes were black. I was going to throw them away, but my girlfriend broke one open and the potatoes were really soft and almost the consistency of mashed potatoes.

Butter Baked Potato
A camping recipe from BJF. A great baked potato recipe.

BWTB, Big Weenie Taters and Beans
A camping recipe from Bruce Hilbert. One night it just struck us that this would make a great camp meal, if we just put it all in one pot.

Baked Beans
A camping recipe from David. What kid (small or big) ever went camping and sat around the campfire without craving some hot dogs and baked beans? Add a few extras to some canned beans to create a gourmet dish.

Biscuit on a Stick
A camping recipe from Joe Adams. About ten years ago one of my camping buddies pulled a can of biscuits out of his cooler one cold camping morning and introduced us to this great and simple culinary miracle. A can of Hungry Jack buttermilk biscuits has been a staple in my cooler ever since.

Caesar Vegetables
Caesar Vegetables - a camping recipe from LindaVA1. Excellent with grilled shrimp and corn on the cob.

Cajun Grilled Corn
A camping recipe from Vickie. You decide how spicy you would like this.

Cajun Yellow Rice
A camping recipe from Robert Partigianoni. You will find that this simple breakfast meal will become the all time favorite. Very few breakfast dishes will have the flavor of this meal. This is a meal within itself, or it can be served using smaller portions as a side dish to any meal that you would serve rice.

Campfire Baked Potato
A camping recipe from Cody561. This recipe makes an awesome baked potato.

Campfire Blooming Onions
A camping recipe from Vickie. I love blooming onions and played around with cooking these. I usually serve with a dip.

Campfire Potatoes
A camping recipe from Marcia. We love these. We sometimes make them up with our steaks at night, or we mash the potatoes and heat them up with some butter and garlic powder. They'll fill you up, which is great when it gets cold.

Campfire Potatoes
A camping recipe from Kim McAfee. You can add cheese to the potatoes for flavor also.

Campfire Steamed Vegetables
A camping recipe from Quinton and Connie. If you like bell peppers and onions, you'll love this. Baby red potatoes could be added for a more complete meal. Feel free to mix and match any of your favorite vegetables.

Camping Potatoes
A camping recipe from Charlene. This was my first time camping and my girlfriend showed me this recipe and I fell in love with it. I even cook it at home in my oven. My grandchildren love it also.

Cheesy Potatoes
A camping recipe from Vickie. I found this recipe mixed in with some I found at my grandmother's house. I have no idea where she got it; but it is good.

Coals-Baked Red Potato
A camping recipe from theman. My Mom did this for one of our steak dinners on a charcoal grill back in the sixties. Goes great with grilled chicken, steak, or any other meal that you would serve with a baked potato. The bacon grease gives it a wonderful flavor.

Cole Slaw
A camping recipe from David. What's a barbecue sandwich or a summer picnic without this traditional sidedish?

Corn on the Cob
Corn on the Cob - camping recipe from Lou from West Virginia. A very easy recipe with virtually no preparation.

Corn on the Cob
A camping recipe from Michelle Whitlatch. When you have cooked your corn on the cob the way you like, spread some real mayonnaise on your corn and then sprinkle with some seasoned salt. You will never put butter on your corn again.

Dirty Rice
A camping recipe from Tim Kotula. This is a simple dish to make.

Doug's Famous Potatoes
A camping recipe from Darla. Whenever we camp with other people, they all want this recipe, and it is so easy to make. It is always a hit.

Drunk Risotto
A camping recipe from David. Risotto goes with just about everything. My camping version has a different twist to it. Rather than bringing stock to the campground, I used what I had available in the cooler: beer.

Easy Corn On The Cob
A camping recipe from Dan Douglas. I believe even were you to send this in a satellite to the sun it would still be perfect.

Fiesta Macaroni and Cheese
A camping recipe from Jim. Quick and easy to prepare. I found this recipe on the Kraft Foods site and have used it several times. My Venture Scouts (Ages 14-20) love it and can make it easily on the trail. Tip: put the ground beef in a baggie and freeze it, then wrap in foil and put in fanny pack. When ready for dinner it should be thawed.

Foil Baked Vidalias
A camping recipe from James Evans. Enjoy these sweet onions baked right in the coals.

Foiled Hash Browns
A camping recipe from Gina. Feel free to add other things to the patty sandwiches. I add cheddar cheese, onion, or different spices each time.

Fried Potatoes
A camping recipe from David. Where I come from they often call these home fries. They are good with dinner, and go great with breakfast too.

Garlic Potatoes
A camping recipe from bigdaddy. The aroma during baking is to die for. My children and wife just love this dish. When camping I cook over the fire in a Dutch oven. Make these as a dish along side that juicy steak or even with a hamburger.
