Black Forest Steamed Bread Pudding

A camping recipe from Bummer. Our last day of camping we wanted to celebrate with dessert. I just threw this together with what we had on hand. I used burger buns that were getting old, dark chocolate chips I had brought for s'mores, and the ginger and nutmeg because I had them and not cinnamon. I chose honey to sweeten, because I had three restaurant packets with us, and I used the powdered milk because I had no fresh milk.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
  • 2 hamburger buns or 4 slices of bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk powder
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1/3-1/2 chopped nuts
  • 1/3-1/2 dried cherries
  • 1/3-1/2 dark chocolate chips
Preparation:
Tear bread into small pieces. Mix in all other ingredients. Spray a handle-less pan with cooking spray. Pour the bread mixture into the pan and then seal well with aluminum foil. Place the pan into a larger pot. If you have a heat diffuser, place it in the bottom of the pot. Pour about 1 inch of water in the pot. Cover it tightly with foil. Cook over high heat until you can hear the water boil, then turn stove down to a simmer for about 45 minutes. When a knife inserted into the middle comes clean, the pudding is done.

Servings: 4
