A. A gear loft is a piece of mesh cloth or net that ties to loops suspended from the top of a tent. It serves as a small storage area for lightweight items. For tents with roof-top vents, the gear loft is a good place to hang damp or sweaty t-shirts, hats, or socks so they can dry out while you sleep. Heavy wet clothes should be dried outside in the sun on a clothes line.
