We tent camped for one night in this National Forest campground. The campground was lovely! Towering Ponderosa pines, lava gravel, level sites. The bathrooms were clean (with flush toilets and running water). Friendly hosts. We arrived late without reservations, but the hosts helped us find one of the few remaining sites that suited our needs. While we were there, the Teachers in Parks program provided a lovely evening ranger talk in a lovely amphitheater right next to a cool outcrop of lava rock (from the nearby Sunset Crater Volcano) where bats were flying around overhead. Very cool! The fire pit was really nicely located in the site and spotlessly cleaned out. This site is located near both the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument (very cool!) and Wupatki Pueblo National Monument (also fascinating). We visited both and had a lovely time there. Very cool places!
