Campground Reviews from Fellow Campers
Campground name:Somes Sound View Campground
Date of visit (mo/yr):August 2010
Location (city/state):Mount Desert, Maine
We had the nicest time at SSVC this summer. I am just now getting around to writing my review, but I really wanted to share with you our experience.
First of all the location on the island is so convenient and the scenery is just beautiful. We rented one of the waterfront sites that is right on the Sound. We rented a tandem kayak and took our own personal tour of the sound and all its beauty - and even saw an eagle! The bathhouse was up the hill from us and was so clean and new. It was the nicest bathhouse I have ever been in while camping. The staff was super friendly and helpful with all kids of information about the area. The office had the basic supplies and snacks for sale as well as a ton of brochures, maps and information of things to do and see. The swimming pool was very clean as well, and we enjoyed that amenity! We definitely recommend this campground to anyone. It is nice and small, kept very clean, is an amazing location and has a great staff!

Pros and cons?
Pros: clean, beautiful, great location, great view, friendly staff.
Cons: didn't have any!
Echo lake is right down the road. There are countless hiking trails within minutes. Only 15 minutes from Bar Harbor that has a ton of shopping and restaurants. Food Mart is only 5 minutes away. Carriage trails were the best for biking.
